HTC profit dives 26% in Q4 on stalled smartphone sales

As Samsung reported record preliminary results on Friday, rival HTC revealed a sharp drop in profit for the fourth quarter that the company foreshadowed this past November. The Taiwan-based phone vendor reported unaudited operating income of NT$11.02 billion, down 26% from the same quarter a year prior, and down year-over-year for the first time in two years. Fourth-quarter revenue dropped to�NT$101.42 billion from�NT$104.01 billion in the same quarter 2010, representing a 2.5% slide. HTC has a few new devices set to be unveiled during the Consumer Electronics Show next week, but its bigger announcements are expected to come at Mobile World Congress next month. Read [PDF]
