The United States Justice Department has issued a request for more information from Google and Motorola Mobility concerning the search giant’s planned $12.5 billion acquisition of the phone maker. Amazon Losing $50 Per Kindle Fire?

With its new Kindle Fire tablet, Amazon is clearly undercutting Apple's iPad on price. At just $199, the Fire costs less than half of Apple's entry-level iPad. An appealing price point, but one that requires Amazon to eat a few dollars on each sale. According to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, "Amazon is likely losing about $50 per Kindle Fire." Munster doesn't bother to explain where he gets that number. He does, however, note the disparity between that loss and the 30 percent-plus gross margin Apple makes on the iPad.

SecondMarket said today that it had used its own liquidity program to sell $13 million worth of employee and existing shareholder stock. Feds investigating Motorola Solutions for alleged bribery

The U.S. Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission are investigating Motorola Solutions on suspicion of bribery, The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday. Motorola Solutions, not to be confused with Motorola Mobility, reportedly paid bribes to foreign officials, including Austrian count Alfons Mensdorff-Pouilly, in an attempt to increase business in Europe. If the allegations are true, Motorola Solutions will have been in violation of the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and will likely be required to pay a fine. Microsoft announced and launched a new deals website on Friday tied to its growing Bing suite of services. Pew: Adults still prefer voice calls to text messages

American adults still prefer communicating by voice over sending and receiving text messages according to a recent survey conducted by The Pew Research Center. Pew surveyed 2,277 Americans ages 18 and older between April 26th and May 22nd of this year, and found that nearly three-quarters of them send and receive text messages. Despite the increased popularity of text messaging among adults in the U.S., however, only 31% prefer messaging to voice calls. More than half ? 53% ? said voice calling was their preferred means of communications rather than SMS, and 14% said their preference would depend on the situation. We have seen plenty of rumors that suggest Apple will launch the iPhone 4s as a budget-friendly option alongside the iPhone 5, and now the device has reportedly been listed in one of AT&T’s internal systems. OS X Lion security flaw allows anyone to change your password

Security blog Defense in Depth has found a glaring security flaw in OS X Lion that enables hackers to change the password of any user on a machine running Lion. “[While] non-root users are unable to access the shadow files directly, Lion actually provides non-root users the ability to still view password hash data,” Patrick Dunstan from Defense in Depth explained in a recent blog post. The result is that anyone could use a simple Python script, created by Dunstan himself, to discover a user’s password. It gets worse. Reportedly, OS X Lion does not require its users to enter a password to change the login credentials of the current user. That means typing the command: “dscl localhost -passwd /Search/Users/Roger”
