iPhone 4 antennagate sufferers scoop tiny jackpot

If you bought an iPhone 4 and had trouble with reception, you are in the money. Just not very much money. As you may recall, the release of the device in 2010 was completely overshadowed by a significant problem with the handset’s design. An attempt to creatively use space by having the antenna wrapped around [...]

Wealthy smartphone users more likely to own an iPhone, study finds

Wealthy smartphone users are more likely to own an Apple iPhone and less likely to play games or post on Twitter than average users. According to research from The Luxury Institute, 62% of U.S. consumers earning at least $150,000 per year own a smartphone. 45% of people falling to that category own an iPhone, 35% use an Android-powered device and 25% have a BlackBerry. More than 80% of wealthy smartphone owners download mobile apps, with the most popular categories being weather (63%), news (51%), travel (42%), business/finance (39%) and sports (34%). Facebook, Angry Birds and Words With Friends are the most popular apps, however higher-income consumers use far less entertainment apps than the average smartphone user. “As you get older

MetroPCS Announces New Throttling-Free $70 LTE Plan

Add MetroPCS to the list of carriers throttling data speeds on their LTE plans. This morning, the company said subscribers to its $40/250 megabytes, $50/2.5 gigabytes and $60/5GB plans will find their speeds reduced once they exceed those data caps. For MetroPCS customers who find that idea unappealing, there is another option, though: A new $70-per-month unlimited LTE data plan, $10 more than the carrier previously charged for the same service.

Teacher?s aide fired for refusing to hand over Facebook password

A teacher?s aide at an elementary school was fired last year for refusing to give her Facebook login credentials to her supervisors, ZDNet reported on Sunday. In April 2011, Kimberly Hester signed on to Facebook while she was not at work and jokingly posted a picture of a co-worker?s pants around her ankles, with the caption “Thinking of you.” A parent and Facebook friend saw Hester’s photo and complained to the school. A few days later, the superintendent reportedly requested three times that she hand over her user name and password. Research In Motion is dead

I saw from the inside and outside how RIM transformed the mobile landscape, and how the company even battled its own inner demons throughout the years. Here are my thoughts on the company’s worst quarter in five years: RIM grew incredibly fast. It grew faster than the company knew how to manage, and RIM slowly ? and then quickly ? slipped as a result. This is the company that used to make users choose between a device with Wi-Fi and no GPS, or GPS and no Wi-Fi, just to have two products on the market instead of one. This is the company that refused to take the consumer market seriously for a number of years. This is the company that

Paper for iPad shows us what the Microsoft Courier could have been [video]

In late 2009, a tablet concept in development at Microsoft set tech blogs aflutter. The device was code-named “Courier,” and it consisted of two connected touchscreens that folded open like a book. The slate was seen as a fantastic product that could serve as a digital notebook on top of a standard media tablet, but Microsoft would later confirm that work on the Courier was being discontinued. A new iPad app was made available this week that resurrects the spirit of the Courier however, and it’s easy to see why: the team behind Paper byFiftyThree includes several people who once worked on the Courier project at Microsoft.
